Vacancy: ICORN -  Communication & Outreach Coordinator

The ICORN network is growing and wishes to strengthen the staff with a new communication and outreach coordinator. Application deadline: January 16th.

ICORN is an international freedom of expression organization that offers persecuted writers, journalists and artists from around the world long term, temporary shelter in a city of refuge, where they can work further and express themselves freely. ICORN currently has 74 member cities. Most are in Europe, and in North and South America.

The position

ICORN is looking for a motivated new communications and outreach coordinator to join its Secretariat team. The ideal candidate will have a strong communications background, be happy to work in a fast paced environment, and will be able to work and collaborate across the many layers of the ICORN website.

This new role will be crucial to expand the network’s impact, and to  ensure that many of ICORN’s untold stories - stories of hardship, persecution and increased crackdowns against freedom of expression, but also of courage, escape and refuge - are heard and that they reach key actors and stakeholders at the national, regional and international stage.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Research, write, edit and publish relevant material for ICORN’s public platforms
  • Maintain and develop ICORN’s web site
  • Develop and operate ICORN’s social media profile
  • Take part in the development of ICORN’s new communication plan
  • Research, draft and communicate annual reports for the organization
  • Take part in preparing and implementing online and offline meetings and gatherings
  • Update and maintain internal communication lists/registers
  • Other relevant tasks related to the Secretariat's  activities

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years professional experience in communication work
  • Significant experience with writing and scheduling content for Facebook and Twitter
  • Relevant experience writing newsletters, annual reports and other forms of organizational correspondence
  • Familiar with basic social media analytics and ready to use that data to adjust and optimize a communications plan
  • Relevant international press and network competence and experience
  • Approved relevant higher education
  • Very good written and oral communication skills in English and (preferably) Scandinavian
  • Excellent digital and social media competence

About ICORN

ICORN is an international freedom of expression organization that offers persecuted writers, journalists and artists from around the world long term, temporary shelter in a city of refuge, where they can work further and express themselves freely. ICORN currently has 74 member cities. Most are in Europe, and in North and South America. Each city of refuge facilitates the offered residence, while the Secretariat in Stavanger is responsible for receiving and assessing applications for residence and selection of candidates in consultation with the cities of refuge. The Secretariat also offers advise on migration and issues related to the residencies, training and capacity building of city coordinators, recruiting new cities of refuge, and maintaining and developing networks and partnerships, nationally and internationally.
