Mohammad Habeeb

Mohammad Habeeb is a Syrian poet, writer, translator and human rights activist. However, he was not allowed to publish his own writing in Syria, he has translated a number of well-known literary works into Arabic. Since 1989, Habeeb has been actively protecting human rights for which he was arrested in 1991. After being a prisoner for 9 years, he lost his civil rights and he could not work or practice any public profession in Syria. In 2011, he became the co-founder of Maan (Together), a movement which was supporting peaceful change in the country. Habeeb was forced to flee Syria with his family in 2013. Since he arrived in Stavanger City of Refuge in August 2015, he has been contributing as an expert on the Syrian conflict and having had lectures e.g. at Universitetet i Bergen, Katedralskolen i Stavanger, Amnesty International.
