Gerður Kristný

Gerður Kristný has published poetry, short stories, novels, and books for children. She graduated in French and comparative literature from the University of Iceland. Before Kristný became a full-time writer, she edited the Mannlíf magazine. In 2005, she received The Icelandic Journalism Award for the biography Myndin af pabba—saga Thelmu (A Portrait of Dad—Thelma's Story).Other awards for her work: Children's Choice Book Prize (2003) for Marta Smarta, the Halldór Laxness Literary Award (2004) for Bátur með segli og allt, the West-Nordic Children's Literature Prize (2010) for Garðurinn, and the Icelandic Literature Prize (2010) for her poetry book Blóðhófnir. Kristný's poetry and short stories have been included in school textbooks at the elementary and secondary level, as well as in anthologies and periodicals published in Iceland and abroad.
