Tears of Gaza follows the effects of Israel’s attack on Gaza in January 2009. The film focuses on a young boy and two girls’ story from hell. NOTE: Exclusive opening film Tuesday 21 September at 8 p.m., with an introductory conversation between Vibeke Løkkeberg, Terje Kristiansen and Hans Erik Voktor.

A young, well dressed man with a British accent wakes up on the New York underground and does not know who he is. In this documentary director Rupert Murray has described his childhood friend Doug’s experience of amnesia. The film was nominated for a British Independent Film Award.

Time in prison, Siberian tattoo art and a people of “honest criminals” are just some of the milestones in Lilin’s already cult-acclaimed story Siberian Education. Lilin, who currently works as a tattoo artist in Italy, meets Norwegian journalist Simen Ekern for a conversation.

A powerful documentary about Olav H. Hauge, the poet who lived a lonely and isolated life. He spent periods committed to a mental hospital and just avoided lobotomy. However, through his poetry he won his life back bit by bit. Introduction by director Vigdis Nielsen.

The International PEN’s Writers in Prison Committee celebrates 50 years of work this year. Vice President of PEN, author Moris Farhi talks to Stavanger’s first guest writer, Mansur Rajih, who was in prison for 15 years in Yemen. Organised in collaboration with Norwegian PEN, ICORN and Shahrazad – Stories for Life.

Romanian writer Mircea Cartarescu is a glowing name on the European literary sky, and with his Orbitor trilogy he has created a series of classics that explore history, his hometown of Bucharest and his own life in an intricate interaction. In conversation with his colleague Jonny Halberg.

What kind of freedom of speech has Russia won since the wall fell and under Putin? Yulia Latynina is a very critical Russian journalist and media personality and gives this year’s Aftenbladet lecture on freedom of the press and expression in modern Russia. In collaboration with the newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad.
