Rush - Grace under pressure

Rush: Grace Under Pressure (1984, Anthem/Mercury)

Alex Lifesons genialt organiske gitarspill sørger for litt frisk luft midt i all tungsindigheten.

Bondage Fairies - What you didn't know when you hired me

Bondage Fairies: What You Didn't Know When You Hired Me (2006, Hit Thing Germany)

There is something you should have known. It's not about sex with inanimate objects. No, and it is not about animate objects either. It was me who kidnapped your Nintendo 64, transforming it into a laser cannon capable of shooting red rays from space and killing Mrs Volkova. And this is what this great record teaches us.

Sloan - Twice removed

Sloan: Twice Removed (1994, Geffen)

Twice Removed is Sloan's power pop masterpiece and is arguably their best and surely their most critically acclaimed (voted "Best Album You Didn't Hear" by Spin magazine in 1994 and "Best Canadian Album of All Time" by Chart magazine in 1996 and again in 2005). Musically, the album borrows more from 1960s and 1970s pop rock than their shoegazer inspired debut Smeared; a direction which has become true of the band to date. Although all four members provide lead vocal to their respective songs, the album is surprising cohesive with the charm of each member surfacing through their own musical influences. Sloan may have had more commercial success in subsequent years but Twice Removed is the one that remains unsurpassed to me.

Sarah Bareilles - Little Voice

Sarah Bareilles: Little Voice (2008, Epic)
